Traffic

Posted on the August 9th, 2011 under money well spent by Maria Soledad

In real life, traffic is definitely annoying. But in the world of blogging, everybody wants to have tremendous traffic :) With an average of 20 unique visitors a day, I can say that my online journal does not belong to the elite list of blogs which get hundreds or even thousands of unique hits a day. Bitter? Yes. I want to have more readers so I can get more comments :) I’m just wondering if HubShout.com is the answer to my dilemma. It’s an internet marketing service that promises to help bring traffic to a site by improving it’s ranking in major search engines. Check it out for more details. But before you do it, think first if you really need to spend bucks on your website’s traffic. There are other options, and way much better, like entrecard, blogexplosion, etc. Visiting friends’ and friends’ blogs can help too.

Lifetime Debt

Posted on the May 22nd, 2011 under in the name of money by Maria Soledad

The only reason why I’m not quitting my job even if the salary is very low is because I don’t want to ask for help from other people and be indebted for the rest of my life. I know for sure it is inevitable that sometimes we will need help from our friends, colleagues and well, relatives. But as much as possible, I don’t want to borrow money so I am always stretching my budget to the highest level. Yes sure I have debts. But I’d rather borrow from people who are completely strangers to me than to my relatives. Why? Here’s why:

When I was in college I needed to quit my part time job so I could concentrate on my thesis. I was financially distressed at that time because my father just passed away and my family is still recovering from the lost. I am not really the type of person who would do this, I’m very shy but I badly needed it so I gathered all my guts and asked a relative if I could borrow 1000 pesos. She did lend me the money and I promised that I will return it as soon as I graduate and get a job but she refused telling me that it’s a gift. I thought it was some sort of goodwill. My dad helped her family so many times before so I thought she was just returning the favor through me. But I was totally mistaken because until now, that was almost 5 years ago, she is still telling all our relatives that I wouldn’t be able to finish college if she didn’t help me. If only I knew that it’s going to be some sort of a lifetime debt (graditude), I would never ask for her help.

New Endeavor

Posted on the February 4th, 2011 under future plans, money desperate, money well spent by Maria Soledad

I am a little scared with the technical aspects. I am chickening out to explore my CPanel and the folders inside my file manager because I might click something that would modify the html tags or delete the javascripts or worse, I might accidentally do something that would result to corrupted files. Luckily, WordPress is a blogger-friendly platform so I was able to troublesoot some minor problems while I was on the process of setting up my new blog. Some of these errors were broken themes, permalinks not poiting to anything, and column two of sidebar isn’t working. There are still a lot of plans to improve the layout of my new blog but I need to familiarize my self first with basics such as start tag and end tag.

This is also something I consider very ambitious since it involves money and not just pesos, I’m talking about dollars. I’m not so sure if I can afford to maintain a paid domain and webhosting plan. I just hope I’d be able to earn and save money again before the next payment (May 2010).

Grand Vacation

Posted on the October 17th, 2009 under future plans by Maria Soledad

While some people can travel to a different country on the spur of the moment, I want it to be detailed, organized and well-planned to avoid unnecessary hassles and delays. I wish to travel to Sydney, Australia and explore the countless and amazing tourist spots the city has to offer. Staying in a five-star hotel just like Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is ideal not only because it is renowned for it’s elegant facilities but also because it is just a few minutes away from the world-famous architectural structures such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. My first stop would be the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Lot’s of people who’ve been there describe the museum as a treasurehouse of arts collection, perfect for somebody like me who loves paintings! Next, I’m going to treat my self with various Australian delicacies, buy a book about their culture, then walk on the streets of Sydney. Finally before I go home, I’d drop by the Harbour Bridge to watch the sunset.

I really want to experience all of that. But first I have to work doubly hard lol. Traveling isn’t just about planning and relaxing. It takes a lot of dollars to enjoy one.

House Plans Within Your Budget

Posted on the September 19th, 2009 under money well spent by Maria Soledad

Inspired by the Swiss Family Robinson movie, I fancied of owning a treehouse when I was a child. I simply wanted a place where me and my friends could play and hang around and basically just somewhere I could hide when I feel bad. But as I grew older and wiser, I remodeled my dream house from one made of wooden planks into something constructed with concrete walls and glass windows. I realized that treehouses are impractical and well, childish.

I now understand that there are a lot of things to consider when looking for house plans that best fit your lifestyle. Perhaps the most important factor in home financing is the total amount of money that you are willing to spend. I just stumbled upon a very interesting website that I would like to share. You can check it out here www.HousePlansandMore.com. They offer a huge selection of country house plans that include an estimated cost to build in your area. The simple estimation procedure allows the clients to avoid overextending themselves financially with too expensive plans.

Going back to my childhood fantasy, I am now dreaming of living in a home inspired by Spanish-American architecture. I want a house made of bricks with a spacious courtyard for family activities. It’s just a dream but I already checked a ranch house plan and was inspired to work doubly hard to realize my ambition. With a housing plan within my budget, I know it’s not impossible :)

Manga Fanatic

You’d probably find this weird, but my all-time favorite crush is Eugene of Ghost Fighters. He was the boy with ray gun powers and was also the love interest of Jenny. My sister was actually laughing at me because she thought it was really crazy to have a crush on an animé, but I honestly find Eugene cute and adorable :) As a matter of fact, I even had a collection of laminated cards with faces of Eugene, Alfred, Dennis and Vincent on it. I was so addicted with Japanese manga during my secondary studies that I’d save a part of my allowance to buy posters of Flame of Recca, Dragon Ball Z, Ranma 1/2, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, and a lot more.

For me, Animé was more than just a form of entertainment. It was also a way of building and maintaining a social connection with my classmates and friends. Every morning before the flag ceremony starts, me and my girlfriends used to gather under the mango tree to talk about the wholesome love story of either Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask or, Akane and Ranma. We also made it a point to go home before 5:30 PM because we didn’t want to miss a single episode of Flame of Recca.

Recently, I met a cool 19-year old guy in an Anime Chat Room and coincidentaly, we both love Naruto. We had a friendly debate about what would be the fitting end for the show. Will Naruto become a hokage or a great ninja? I still haven’t seen the final episode due to my unpredictable working schedule but I plan to watch it as soon as I find the time. Anyway, it was really nice chatting with him and also with the other members of that site. Everyone was polite and I have not encountered rude or arrogant people.

Shifting Work Schedule

Posted on the August 17th, 2009 under in the name of money by Maria Soledad

After almost 4 years of being employed in this company, I’ve already gotten used to unpredictable working schedules. It was included in the conditions when I applied for this job so there is really nothing to complain. I knew from the start that I have to adjust every month as I will be assigned to different shifts: 6:00-14:00 (shift one), 14:00-22:00 (shift two), and 22:00-6:00 (shift three). It’s just a bit unpredictable because if somebody wasn’t able to report on duty, one of the employees has to extend working hours.

Shift One In one of my posts, I mentioned that I am a heavy sleeper. So waking up as early as 4:00AM is such a torture for me :( Honestly, working as early as six in the morning feels like I’m still dreaming, only it’s not so whimsical! The advantage of course is that I get home at around 3:30 PM to laze around.

Shift Two If you will ask me, mid-shift is the best. I don’t need to wake up too early plus I am able to watch cartoons in the morning like my favorite Doraemon and Spongebob hehe :) I get home at around 11:30 PM and I won’t sleep until 3:30 AM. Either I’m still watching dvd or reading a magazine.

Shift Three Staying awake at night and sleeping during daytime for one whole month really makes me tired and exhausted. Add the fact that it’s really difficult to sleep during the day! The weather is really hot and my surrounding is a bit noisy. There are a lot of children in our neighborhood so it’s normal to hear kids’ shouting or laughing out loud. But shift 3 is still better than shift 1 :)

Someday, hopefully before I turn 26, I also want to work in normal office hours like 9:00-5:00. It’s just not the right time to apply for a new job right now considering the fact that most of the companies in the Philippines are affected by global financial crisis. At least in my current job, it’s safe. I can almost call it stable.

Get Listed in My Blogroll

Posted on the August 2nd, 2009 under link-building by Maria Soledad

I am a self-proclaimed ex-link addict :) I certified myself :) I know it very well that if I am determined to earn money from this online journal, I also have to concentrate on link-building, not just on content. That’s the rule. I still don’t know how am I going to do that but I guess exchanging links with websites will help.

Anyone who wants to exchange links with me, please do leave a message here or in my chat box. LOL :) As long as you will add me too and your site is not porn, I’ll add you ASAP! And hopefully, we have the same niche and your blog is not a link farm. Thank you very much!

And also, only english and tagalog comments will be approved :) I’ve been receiving comments written in unfamiliar languages and I’m really sorry, can’t accept. How would I know if you are already cursing me. Joke :) But thanks a lot for the effort .

Note: I don’t have a page rank *shy*

Magnificent Yet Unfinished

Posted on the July 25th, 2009 under future plans by Maria Soledad

If there is one place in this world that I’m dying to visit, that would be Barcelona, Spain. I want to see with my own eyes the famous La Sagrada Familia which was designed by one very peculiar architect – Antonio Gaudí. His structural plan was full of intricacies and complexities, it won’t be finished until year 2026! And would you believe that Gaudí and his contemporaries started working on this masterpiece over a hundred years ago? Wow! They sure are not in a hurry to get it done, huh?

According to a documentary film I’ve watched on t.v., Gaudí’s architectural design was unique in such a way that when you look at one side of his work, it would be totally different from the other sides. No wonder why lots of tourists from all over the world are coming to Barelona to see this work of art.

In order for me to spend treasured moments in the Iberian peninsula, I would have to exchange all my pesos to euros. And based on my calculation, I also need to save half of my salaries for the next 20 years or more so I could afford the plane tickets, hotel accomodations, etc. Hehe! Just like Señor Gaudí, I think I’m also not in a hurry :)

Arriba Barcelona!
